Compacting

I have a front end and a back end database.
I would naturally compact the back end database as it has the stored data
but should i compact the front end at all ?

Compacting the FE may not be as necessary, especially if no temp data is
written and deleted in it, but it's free so you have nothing to lose...
especially taking into acount the fact that FE's tend to be fairly
small, as they hold no (or almost no) data, so it takes just a few secs.
I'd recommend Compact on Close, if you have A2K or later, just check the
option under Tools > Options, tab General. Note: this setting is
file-specific.
