Compacting PST Folder

I use Outlook 2000 (Internet Mail option). I am attempting
to compact the PST.

Microsoft suggest compacting each folder seperately via the
"Properties, General, Advanced" option. But this option is
unavailable on each folder. However it is available on the
main Outlook root folder (containing all the personal
folders I have set up).

Unfortunately when I select 'Compact' on the root folder
nothing happens.

Can anyone help please?

Nothing will happen unless there is sufficient free space that can be
recovered. In other words, nothing to worry about.

Sue,

Thanks for your prompt reply. However I have deleted many
emails, many with large attachments. I also use the 'Delete
upon exit' option so the deleted folder is always empty.
The PST still grows!

It might have already compacted in the background before you tried to
compact manually. Outlook compacts the file automatically when it has time.
It probably won't, though, if you use a screen saver.
