Compact / compress Outlook .pst files

My outlook files (.pst) continue to grow no matter how many messages I delete
or how much I archive. I'm at nearly 1.6 GB - which I think is close to the
max size supported.

I found the "Compact Now" button under Data File Management, but nothing
seems to happen.

Do I need to change file attributes to allow compression? This didn't seem
to have any effect either.

Have you emptied the Deleted Items folder?

Max size depends on version of OL, which you failed to mention.
Youve also Archived?
