Compact and Repair doesn't reduce size anymore

Greetings,

I have a large access database used as a back end. We've had it for
over two years now and regularly compact and repair. For some reason,
it got over 200 meg and when I compacted it, the size didn't reduce AT
ALL like before. I took a clean database and imported all of the
tables and it reduced to 132 meg. But I just looked at it after one
day and it's up to 242 and won't compact. What's up with that? It
becomes rather unstable when it gets over 200 meg. Thanks for any
thoughts out there.
 
Yes, it only contains tables, but some people get locked out the
larger it gets. It won't let them add records, etc. so we like to
keep it compacted. Thanks, I'll check out the link.
