Access 2007 'Compact & Repair' not reducing size on networked driv

We seem to have an issue that the 'Compact and Repair' function in Access
2007 is not reducing file sizes of Access databases network drives. Is there
any way around this, other than copying the database to a local disk,
compacting it there and then returning it to its original location?

Sorry, I meant to write "...is not reducing file sizes of Access databases ON
network drives..."

Ironically, I'm glad to see that someone else is also having this problem. I
though it was just me.

I would like to thank you for at least providing a workaround (compacting on
the C drive). Seems Office 2007 is having some issues working on network
drives. The links in Powerpoint were not working until they released a
hotfix. I wonder if a Hotfix has been issued for this problem?

Thanks.

I have noticed that on network drives compact and repair in Access 2007
actually creates a new database instead of compressing the original. Has
anyone experience the same?

After much testing and investigation, we have found that the hotfix
documented at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952699/ actually fixes this,
even though it doesn't say so! Grrr! In fact it works perfectly, over a
network drive, doesn't create another file and reduces the file size as you
would hope for and expect.

I've found that by saving the database as an executable file, it will
actually compact. I haven't been able to try the hotfix because of IT
restrictions here at work, but if the file is an .accde it will work for me.
