EVERYONE SEE COMP USA AD, BRING IN COMPUTER AND THEY INSTALL SP2, NO
CHARGE!! WONDER WHAT THE CHARGE IF IT DOESN'T WORK--CALLED, MINE SAID THEY
HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS
JUST ANOTHER OUTLET FOR PROBLEMS, MAYBE
CANDYMAN

Sounds like a scam to me. You bring it in and low and behold they find a
chargeable problem. SP2 is easy to install and there's no need to let comp
usa do it for you. Besides I wouldn't let the high school kids that work at
comp usa get within 10 feet of my computer. I have never talked to a
competent tech at any comp usa I've ever been to.

I personally think it's a good idea to have them do it. I will agree that
SP2 is not a problem with well maintained PC. Just finished my 40th PC
today (Dell Laptop Latitude C840) and it installed without a problem.
However, some people does not have the time or the skill required to
maintain their PC. Let CompUSA do it for them. Just let CompUSA know well
in advance that they are responsible for restoring the PC in original status
should SP2 does not work and you are not going to pay for anything.

Well my view on that is the computer is a tool, not a toy. If you can't take
the time to learn to use the tool correctly, which means learning to secure
and maintain it, then you have no business owning a computer. If you need to
use one goto the library or local coffee/computer shop. I am for, and have
been for years, people having to take, and pass, a test about computers
before they are even allowed to buy one. Maintenance is part of owning a
computer, learn to do it or don't own one. And believe it or not I have my
own computer tech support business. I fix peoples computers who don't know
what there doing all day long. My goal is to put myself out of the software
support business. Sure you'll always need to help people with hardware
issues/repairs/upgrades, but maintenance and security is the responsibility
of the user, imo. I would much rather educate people on how to maintain and
secure their computer than make money off their ignorance.

They will install it no charge, but if it screws up your computer, they are
not responsible unless you pay then $97.00 to back up your hard drive first.
You will be given a form to sign that states this, and it protects them from
any responsibility if you chose no to back up.

LOL - I knew it had to be a scam. So its a "free" $97.00 upgrade...........
nice. I guess you could back up at home then bring it in and if they mess it
up put your backup back on, but if they knew how to do that then they
probably wouldn't be going to comp usa for a sp2 install anyway.......... so
it's a "free" $97.00 upgrade. ;o)

Let's hope they (CompUSA) are smart enough to install SP2 in
Safe Mode, otherwise your PC will have their "Workbench"
peripherals in your machine's Device Manager. I guess a few
"Phantoms" is a fair price for them to increase store traffic.

Yeah you can say that all you want, but they must read the small print of
the work order!

That is not always completely accurate, but probably 99% of the time. I
have on a rare occasion known very smart and computer literate people at
CompUSA, but they are few and farbetween!
