I have a laptop and desktop both running xp pro connected with a router by
ethernet to the desktop and wireless to the notebook. I use dial-up through
the desktop. I can print, access files and internet from the laptop to the
desktop, but cannot communicate from the desktop to the laptop. I have run
the wizard several times, renamed my workgroup, etc but on both machines when
I look at my workgroup only the machine I am on shows up. Any ideas?

make sure no icf block the traffic. also can you ping laptop?
