Common Tasks Missing

The common tasks and links are missing from the left hand side of my
screen in my computer/my documents. (other places/system
tasks/details)

If I click on folders, the tree shows but if I click off folders the
common tasks and links are still gone.

I'm sure I must have done it, but I don't know how so I can't get it
back.

Go to Start -> Control Panel and double click on Folder
Options.
On the General page, make sure that "Show common tasks in
folders" is selected.
Click OK.
