command shell redirection to serial port

I have multiple shelves of headless, diskless machines using command shell.
I can redirect console output via BIOS to a serial port. This works during
POST and boot phases but not for the command shell. My BIOS help says that
redirection during system operation is OS dependent. Is there a way to make
it work in XPe?

You could build a headless XPe system that uses a work around for NTE's
serial console administration.
