command.com not working

I have a user whose login script was not working. It turns out command.com
is not working. I copied cmd and command from another XP machine to her
machine, and when running it from the system32 folder it works, but when
using start, run, cmd or command, or when running from the login script, it
does not. It doesn't recognize and commands:
'net' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
when it's trying to run net use
commands like ipconfig and ping produce the same error.

Nothing to do with command. Command runs NO commands in XP. If you must run a dos command use this syntax

command /c doscommand

Type Path in a command prompt and what does it say.

that was it, c:\windows\system32 was missing from the path.
