Combining paragraphs changes font.

When I combine two paragraphs into one, I hit the delete key after the last
character in the first paragraph, and keep doing that until the paragraph
below moves up and becomes a continuation of the first paragraph. But Word
has the irritating habit of changing the font and size of the second
paragraph. If I am typing in Ariel 14, and combine paragraphs, word changes
the second half into Courier 10. I suppose the point is to make sure I can
tell what the change was. How can I stop Word from being so helpful?

Hi McGyver,

There is a much simpler way to handle paragraphs in any version of Word
document. You just need to adjust the spacing between the paragraphs
according to your choice.
Highlight the paragraphs that you want to adjust then right click and
select Paragraph.
In the Paragraph window you would have the option to select the Spacing
between the paragraphs. I am sure this woudl surely solve your problem.

Thank you,,,

I don't see how this is at all relevant to the question McGyver asked, which
was about font formatting, not paragraph formatting. He doesn't want space
between the paragraphs; he wants the font not to change.

Hi McGyver,

What do you want to have happen, instead? That's not clear.

When I combine two paragraphs, but hitting the delete key at the end of the
first one until the second one come up and becomes a continuation of the
first, I want the font of both parts to remain unchanged. If I have been
using Ariel 14 in both parts, and I combine them, they should still be Ariel
14.

This changing of fonts thing even happens when I have one paragraph, and
want to add some words to the middle, and in order to see it better, I click
the Enter key a few times to drop the remainder of the paragraph down out of
the way. Then when I am done composing, and want to bring the balance of
the paragraph back up, it changes font and size. Very irritating.

Try setting your font to Ariel 14 and clicking "default" in the font dialog
to make that the default font. Then see if the problem persists in
documents created *after* that change.

By default, all text in your doc is formatted in the Normal style. When you
manually change the font or size, it only applies to the selected paragraph.
Hitting enter can reset paragraphs back to the regular Normal style, which
seems to be set at Courier 10 for you. Clicking default in the font dialog
will redefine the Normal style.

This link might explain the concept better, although for a slightly
different situation.
