COM2 drivers?

Hi,

I have a Dell Dimension 4100 attached to a piece of test equipment that uses
2 COM ports. I recently upgraded from Windows ME to Windows 2000 Pro, which
required re-installing virtually every driver on the PC, but I can't get COM2
working. The PC correctly identifies the PCI card with the extra COM port,
but do I need an additional driver to use it? Or should Windows 2000 Pro pick
this up itself and use the same driver it uses for COM1?

Many thanks,
Keith

There is no supported upgrade path from WinME to Windows 2000.

That's about the third time someone has told me that SINCE I did the upgrade.
What I would like to know is why Microsoft offer the option and then don't
support it ... and don't mention when offering the "upgrade" that it isn't
supported!

I have actually managed to solve the COM2 drivers problem, by removing the
PCI card with COM2 on it and getting the details from it, then getting the
correct details from the net. I wish I'd put my brain in gear before doing
the first post...

The problem is that WinME was released *after* Windows 2000. From a
stability standpoint you'll want to clean install Windows 2000.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.
