No COM or LPT1 ports

I am trying to install an internal PCI dialup modem using the Hardware
Installation Wizard. I get as far as selecting the driver and the next step
is to select a port. However there are no ports to select from(Using Xp for
example, the selection would have included COM1, COM2, LPT1, ...etc) What
do I do now ?, Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance

I have seen the excact same problem - albeit while trying to connect the Palm
T5 and its Hotsynch manager. There are no COM1 port in the drop-down menu in
Hotsynch manager.

I had it working before, then moved the PC physically, and the com ports
were gone.

Now I try to find a way to "re-install" the com ports under Vista.

So far unsuccessful, so any help would be most appreciated :).
