Com2 and Com 3 Port deleted

I am trying to install a scale to a machine running UPS
Worldwide program. The scale needs to hook up to Com2 or
com3 but those selections are missing from the hardware
management list. When I try to add another port it sets
it up as Com5 or Com6. How do I get XP to reinstall com
ports 2 & 3?

Are you sure your computer has one. Some computers no longer have any com ports and some only 1. Read your manual. Maybe it needs to be turned on in the BIOS. Read your manual. None of the above is anything to do with windows or MS.

Where are you adding the ports?

To install your scale use the accompanying installation disk, or "plug & play" installation if WinXP finds new hardware. Go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other hardware, rightclick the device and click Properties, and go to the Ports tab to select a port. There should be ports 1 thru 4 listed.

I have com1 port for communications, Com4 is the Zebra

bar code label printer and LPT1 is for the HP printer. I
need to use either com2 or com3 for the scale. I have an
addtional adapter with the com connectors but somehow the
two ports are missing. How do I reinstall the com2 and
com3 ports?

I do not have an installation disk and the scale is not

plug and Play, the UPS shipping program has the driver
info for the scale but is looking for the scale on Com2 or
com3.

Your addin card, which you neglected to mention earlier, will have drivers. What does the addin card say. Addin card usually do Com3 and Com 4 cause 1 & 2 used to be built in. Is there a conflict between Zebra (which must also have an addin card if using Com 4) and your new card. Does your zebra card provide Com 3 support. Does your computer have a Com 2.

You have the manuals, we don't.
