COM Surrogate Error

I have neither Nero nor DivX on my Dell E1705 Vista Business 32-bit computer,
but I'm still getting this error when I start Windows Mobile Device Center.
I tried exempting COM Surrogate from DEP, but then the application doesn't
open at all. Is this related to a program I've installed on my iPAQ? or is
it related to Windows Media, or Windows Device Center or what? Seems to
happen sporadically, not systematically, so it's hard to pinpoint. Even with
the COM Surrogate error, the Windows Device Center would still work, but as I
said, if I disable DEP, it stops working completely.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I do not have installed nor have I ever had
installed Nero or any other "DivX" codec. I am running Windows Vista
Business 32-bit edition. Every time I plug in my Windows SmartPhone to sync
with Outlook 2007, I get the "COM Surrogate has stopped working" message.
Curiously, unlike you, when I disabled DEP for dllhost, Windows Mobile Device
Center continued working, BUT I also continued to get the COM Surrogate
errors. Finally, the error only happens about 50% of the time (when I plug
in my phone).

The error doesn't seem to stop my phone form syncing with Outlook. It also
does not seem to affect the overall stability of my system; it is just an
annoyance. Still, this is a piece of Microsoft software syncing another
piece of Microsoft software with another piece of Microsoft software. What
gives guys?
