com ports

In the process of installing and configuring some bluetooth software have
lost com port 4 and 5 in device manager. Else where I see a notation that com
port 4 and 5 are in use. Why are they not appearing in device manager?
 
windows assigns com ports to com ports - usb, bluetooth, etc.
so once you install it they are assigned. They don't seem to appear
until you plug something in to the port.
