Com Ports

How can I find out what hardware is assigned to each com port. I'm having a problem with my Palm Synch and wonder if I have it hooked up right.
 
I have the same question. Sometimes the Palm will connect to COM5. Most of
the time, at start up, I get an error message "COM5 is not available".Since
it does occasionally connect to COM5, I know COM5 already exists
