Com Port 1 & 2 Not recognizing ISO programmer

I'm having trouble getting an ISO programmer to be recoginzed in my Com
Ports and
I have done the following to try and fix the problem with no luck.

1) Downloaded a program called "Microsoft.NET V1.1 still
"Communications Error!"
2) Tried using Com Port 2 and change setting in to Port 2 still
"Communications Error!"
3) Plug ISO programmer into Com Port 1 and re boot then tried Com Port
2
and re boot still "Communications Error!"
4) Downloaded current Microsoft updates for Window's XP re boot try
both
Port 1 and 2 still "Communications Error!"
5) Went into Control panel Device Manager uninstalled Port 1 & 2 re
boot and
reinstall still "Communications Error!"
6) Went into Control panel Device Manager ensured both Port 1 & 2 are
enabled (they were) still "Communications Error!"
7) Tried one of my "old" ISO programmers (Greenlight Go Programmer) and
still "Communications Error!"
8) Did a system check for Com Port 1 & 2 and computer say's both are
"functioning properly"

At this point I'm lost and not sure what to try next. I'm running
Window's XP and I've tried everything I know.

I have also bought a USB/Port adaptor and same alarm. I have tested the
ISO
on a friends computer and it works fine so I assume its something wrong
with
my computer and not the ISO programmer. Please Help!!!

Have you set the baud rate (interface speed) in the hardware's
configuration. Never having used an ISO Programmer, I don't know if it
matters. I know my LCD requires it be set to work correctly. If it's not
available in your hardware config, there's also a setting in Device Manager,
and I believe the default is 9600 bits per second, and it's selectable.

Have you tried plugging in an external modem into one of the ports to
make sure that the ports are actually working correctly? If they are
when the modem is used you might want to try unplugging the modem from
the COM port and plugging in the ISO programmer and see if it works then.

I'm sort of computer illiterate...what do you mean plug in an external
modem? What exactly is that?...sorry

Something like the US Robotics external modems that are still available
in some stores. This normally plugs into the COM port and a telephone
jack. For testing purposes you only need to plug it into the COM port,
turn on the modem, and then reboot the computer. You can then use
control panel to see if the modem is detected and to run diagnostics.
If these succeed then the COM port is working correctly. Another
advantage of using the external modem is that it will respond to XP
while booting and XP won't think that the port is inactive. I don't
know if this is the problem you are having but it may be worth trying.
