COM+ Event System error

Hi, my system shut down the other day when I received an error message and I
couldn't restart. I kept getting a 'read disk error' message upon booting and
found it very hard to boot in safe mode but once i did i was able to use
system restore and I could start-up in normal mode.

I've just looked at my error log report and found a few of these messages...
The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal
processing. HRESULT was 8007043C from line 44 of
d:\nt_qxp\com\com1x\src\events \tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact
Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.

Can anyone tell me how to contact the support services mentioned in the
message or how to fix the problem as my system is still running very slow.

Many thanks for any help you can offer,
regards,
Paul

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your help. I have run ' SFC /SCANNOW ' and it has asked me to put
the Windows XP CD in so it can replace files, the problem is I didn't get a
Windows CD with the laptop and don't know anyone that has one. Is there a way
around this and get the files from another source?

Thanks again.

Any legal PreInstalled version of XP must have a way to Recover the system. Determine what you have purchased for that.

Hey Rick,

Sorry I didn't acknowledge your message, I've only just seen it.

I've done as you suggested and all was going fine until halfway through the
SFC /SCANNOW, it's now asking me to insert my Windows XP Professional Service
Pack 2 CD. The problem is I'm running Windows XP Home edition, not Pro!

Not sure whats going on, any suggestions?

best regards.

Hi,

Essentially, it's the same problem. Same key in the registry, just this time
it's the ServicePackSourcePath string that needs to be changed. In a normal
installation, the path would be C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\I386

Hi Mark,

Just replying to say thanks for all your help with this. Unfortunately, in
the end I had to start afresh by re-installing windows as nothing seemed to
work, a couple of days after posting here it was so bad I could only run one
program at a time, any more than that and it would crash.

best regards
