Columns to paragraph

I have office 2007. I'm trying to go from columns to paragraph by clicking
columns under page layout. I click one column from this point forward and
what it does is it changes the columns that I wan to keep to one column and
starts a new document. Please help me, have a deadline on this
project.......Thank you in advance.
 
Either select the text where you want to change the number of columns or
insert a Continuous section break before it.
