Column widths not showing in inches

I am trying to change a column width to 3 inches. In the
Column width dialog box, the setting is 15, but I don't
know what the 15 stands for and it won't set for inches.
What is wrong?

Looks to me like you have changed Windows' international settings and chosen
to use the metric system. The number 15 you mention is probably 15
centimeters. Go to the control panel and check out the international
settings.

I think you meant "Regional Settings" in the Control Panel of the Win OS.

You're probably right. In my Danish version of Windows 2000 it is named
"International" and since this word is used in English as well, I simply
assumed it was used in the US version also. That assumption was obviously
not correct. The translation used isn't always obvious, so to translate it
back into English and be sure to hit the right phrases isn't easy. But
thanks for pointing it out...

I sure agree with you that translation is not easy. At least you are
exposed to different languages in Europe. I have been using English (not my
native tongue)for 30 years and still got it wrong. I used to think in my
native language (Vietnamese) and then translate the sentences to English and
invariably the sentences looked and sounded weird. I took me years to
actually think in English so that the sentences come out a bit better.
