colored labels

How do I change the background color of a label? I have used the format
option, and coloored in (changes in view but not when it prints) - I also
tried changing hte background color..same result.. What am I missing?
 
Background colours are intended for web page creation, however check tools >
options > print > 'background colors and images'

It would give better results and be cheaper to use coloured labels.
