Color printer suggestions

Hi,

I intend to replace my color printer and am researching various
options. I will be using the printer primarily for school reports,
education workshop presentations, and for photo printing. I would
prefer to pay more money for a decent printer as opposed to a very
inexpensive printer where the replacement ink costs more than the
printer itself!

Without a doubt the Canon i850. I have it and luv it. Once you
own it you'll forget every printer you ever owned. It's smooth,
ultra quiet, feeds pages flawlessly, prints my photos, CD labels,
greeting cards, etc. My sister's a teacher and loves her's too,
does banners, reports, greeting cards, photos. Oh, it's also very
affordable and prints text very laser-like, you'll appreciate that
for your reports. I can't quote a price because chances are you're
in the States and I'm in Canada. In fact, I KNOW I'm in Canada!

If you're a handyperson you can refill the 4 cartridges for about
$5 (total) with quality bulk generic ink. The ink I use is so good
I can't tell the difference from Canon's. The reason I use bulk is
because I already have a large collection of syringes from my habit.
No, not drugs - refilling many cartridges for previous printers!

I concur...I did some comparing and I ended up buying the same printer.
The Canon i850 is better than anything else at its price point.

Refills are the way to go to cut costs. The Canon ink tank is about the
easiest cartridge to refill. The first refills with a kit costs about
$17 CDN for all four cartridges compared to $80 CDN for originals. With
bulk ink that later drops to about $1 per cartridge.

My bottle of bulk ink, one color, cost me about $17 (plus shipping/
taxes). At 250 ml, that's enough ink to refill that color about 25
times! By comparison, just one Canon cartridge costs about $25 with
taxes here in Canada. I simply couldn't afford to print photos at
that expenditure level.

Yes, indeed, the above are very good reviews, especially Steve's
Digicams. Great photos, comments and observations. After reading
it I was sold on the printer.

I concur...I did some comparing and I ended up buying the same printer.
The Canon i850 is better than anything else at its price point.

Add a "me too" - great little piece of equipment. Decided on mine
because of the print costs (although the i550 seems to be equal there)
and the better photo quality over the i550.

The Canon i950 and Epson 960 are better than the Canon i850 for photo
quality.

I may have you beat, not in ink by syringes. I have one from 1967
that I used then to refill cartridges for cartridge pens. (remember
them?)

I went through a whole bottle of ink, but somewhere in the second
bottle, I stopped using that kind of pen, and the ink still sits in my
drawer.
