OS is XP Home SP3
Avg antivirus and BT Yahoo antispy
AMD Athlon 64 X2 with 2mb ram
ADSL router via ethernet connection
BT broadband

Problem is that after the machine has been woken from Sleep/hibernate/turn of hard drives, it will not connect to internet or receive e-mails. Otherwise works fine
Any ideas?

First phone BT and make sure your Broadband connection is currently active. The service may be down due to a fault at the exchnage or maintenance at BT's end.

Other than that, could be a host of things causing the fault, from a faulty router to failed cable to software problems.

Try pulling the power from the router, leave a couple of minutes then re power up, a reset will often reinstate a router.

Bring your router up on your browser (see manual for url address) and check settings against the BT settings they supplied you with.
