I recently upgraded to XPRO (SP1) from WIN2K. It seems some of the vids
that I have wont play on the WinMedia player stating that the required codec
is needed. The help states that the needed codec is an 'current indeo
codec'. And the player can not downloaded whatever the codec, from the
server.

The help section states that indeo codec is no longer supplied by XPPRO SP1
and that it should be downloaded from the site. At the site, they want
money. I will be damned if I pay money for a codec that should be there if
the system had come with a XPPRO, w/o the SP1.

Now.. how can I get this codec free, its mine! Also what is the name of
this codec?

I downloaded this file from the net called CodecFinder and when I use it on
some of the vids that do not play, it tells me that the vids are
uncompressed? They played fine b4 on WIN2K, and the O/S tells me I just
need some indeo codec. And still this program does not tell me a name for
the blasted codec.

Also, any other v. good, light and free video player software on the net for
download that may solve all my problems ...maybe.

Thanks.

Codec's do not come with the operating system, unless Microsoft has an
agreement with the author of the codec, and pays for the same. Apparently
Microsoft no longer has this agreement. When you upgraded from Win2K to
Windows XP, the codec's were eliminated.

You have to purchase a DVD player program, such as PowerDVD, which comes
with the codec's.

Codec pack i've found to be good is at mirror.edskes.com
called the k-lite mega codec pack. it's got loads of
codecs and comes with a couple of players too. you can
also specify which of the codecs you want it to install

It has a couple of indeo codecs!!!
The included media player classic is a rip-off of media
player 6 but it's handy as it'll play quicktime and
realplayer files pretty well too.

Good luck with the codecs if you try this pack, let me
know how you get on, Andy.
