codec question!

[confused!]

Some please help me! My little sister imported videos from my sony camcorder
and she is trying to make videos out of those clips using Microsoft Movie
Maker. She keeps getting the following message and I have been searching for
the right codec that i need to install but cannot for the life of me figure
it out! Please help me!

The file _____ cannot be imported because the codec required to play the
file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download
and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to
import the file again.
