I may have a problem which can't be solved, but would appreciate the help
of the best and brightest.

Couple of days ago, my Dell inspiron 8100 refused to reboot, windows screen
appears, goes quickly to flashing a blue screen for a 1/2 second and then
going to the screen with different startup options; i.e. Safe mode, Last
Good config, etc. Nothing will work, only recycles through the same.

I cannot get to the recovery console as after getting to the screen, upon
pushing R or Enter, the blue screen appears indicating Stop: 0x00000024
(0x001902F8, 0xF732C818,0xF7B2C518, 0xF72D6857) In addition, it shows
ntfs.sys address F72D6857 base at F72cc000, Date Stamp 3b7dc8do.

Dell support had me run certain diagnostics...Hard disk passed, other
diagnostics which I performed also appeared to pass.

Meanwhile, the patient status has not changed. This sounds bad....Any help
would be appreciated.

The Stop 0x24 message indicates that a problem occurred within Ntfs.sys. You
may need to reinstall the O/S in order to replace the damaged file(s).

A possible fault would be, your BIOS chip has gone bad.

Erm, no. If that was the case it wouldn't get as far POSTing as it does. Do
check your facts before posting. Jim Eshelman's site has the correct
diagnosis.

I'm just wondering... what is a "BIOS chip"?

John, Miss PT has one. She also has CD ROM's that have jumpers that "short
three pins". I know, because she said so! <grin>

JAX

A "BIOS" Chip is an integrated electronic circuit on a small silicon chip,
which contains the " B (asic) I (input) O (output) S (service).
Does that help?

Very close, Rick. It's actually "S (system)" not Service, but that's close
enough ;)
