COA and 32/64 bit?

When I reformatted my laptop, I wanted to put a fresh clean version of
Vista on there - without all the HP junk. I acquired a CD with Vista -
32 bit and used the COA number on the bottom of the machine to install.
The COA number was for the 64 bit. I installed the 32 bit version
with the 64 bit number just to test the hardware. I updated windows
andit worked fine. Then once I got the 64 bit version, I did the same
thing with no problems. Now the laptop is in the field being used
constantly and updating.
I want to make the following perfectly clear, this is NOT a pirated
version of Vista Home. There is a valid OEM COA on the bottom of the
machine.

Why did the 64 bit number work for the 32 bit version?

Justin;
The COA is not unique to 32 bit or 64 bit versions.
If it is valid for one, it will be for the other.
Retail Vista comes with both 32 and 64 bit media (Ultimate) or 64 bit media
can be ordered (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business) and will work using the
same key.

This does not mean you can install both using the same license, Install and
use, 32 bit or 64 bit on the single license.

I now understand.
and yes, I always knew since my Windows 95 days, one license = one
installation. I haven't violated that since 2000.
I'll too old for that.
