To get my computer to boot, I must first turn off the
main power switch for 30 sec.
The message : cmos checksum error, defaults loaded, press
F1 to continue appears before it will load windows. If I
happen to grab a coffee while this message is up, it will
freeze.Start it all over again.
This has been going on for a few weeks. This morning my
computer turned it's self off several times before I
could even get to the "cmos" screen.
Thanks in advance.

You CMOS is kept alive by a small battery (looks like a watch battery, but
bigger) on your motherboard. When that battery fails, you will lose all
your configuration settings every time you reboot. You need to replace the
battery (Open case, take out the battery, go to "battery" store, get
identical replacement, insert, reconfigure the CMOS settings).

Thanks, will do.
