CMD.exe & Command.com in XP

I am trying to run an old DOS based music editing program in XP called Theme.
The program runs fine in Win2K Pro and Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. In
XP it goes to a full, completely gray screen. It doesn't appear to accept
any input. Typing 'end' and pressing return should end the program, but
doesn't. Pressing ALT+TAB returns a message that the program is using a
video mode that is too large for my monitor.

One caveat, with XP in safe mode (ie: vga mode) it does run. The program is
trying to run in 640x480 mode with a height of 40 lines. The other video
modes available to me are Hercules, EGA, MCGA AT&T and Toshiba Graphics.
None of these modes work either.

I have tried copying cmd.exe from my 2003 server, but the XP prefetch
overwrites it immediately. Copying the command.com causes an error and the
program won't run at all.

I have played around with virtually all the settings available and still
can't get this program to run.

I know this is going to turn out to be some wonderful new feature in XP
that's the best thing since sliced bread, but it isn't helping me right now.

Thanks Jerry, but these products appear to be geared toward enhancing the
command line interface. That isn't my problem.
