super novice! How does this process work? Who answers pleas for help? My
problem is in outlook express when I try to open an attachment I get a
message that there is no program associated with the file. Can somebody out
there help?

That is assuming that it works. Actually, it does sometimes.

Whoever thinks he/she may have something useful to contribute. Opinions
on whether or not this decision was made wisely are not always
unanimous.

Do you know what type of file this is? What is the extension in the
file name (i.e. the suffix in the, after the .)?

You need the same program "on your computer" that was used to create the
attachment in the other computer, OR a compatible viewer.
