Closing documents

In earlier versions of word I placed the close document icon on the toolbar,
the same as new, open, save etc. I coudl also kisy click on the cross in that
particular document window, It makes life easy. Why can i not do this in word
2007? The open, save and lots of other icons are available, but to close a
document I either have to close word completely or click in the symbol in the
top left corner for the drop down menu and click on close. It appears that
Microsoft have removed two of the three standard options. Weird.

Alt + F to drop down the Office Button menu, then select Word Options
and click on Customize. Change the "Choose Commands From" option to
All Commands and drag the Close icon to your Quick Access Toolbar
(QAT).

You can also assign your own keyboard shortcut to the FileClose
command in Customize/Keyboard. This command is listed in the Office
Menu category.

A simpler way to get the command on the Quick Access Toolbar is to click the
Office button, right-click the Close command on the menu, and choose "Add to
Quick Access Toolbar".

There are two default keyboard shortcuts for the DocClose command (not FileClose
-- that's the one that closes Word too): Ctrl+W and Ctrl+F4.

Yes, Jay, your way is simpler. I had a method to my madness for going
the long way around the pike -- the original poster would also see how
many more commands there are that can be added to the QAT and how to
find them.
