Occassionally when I go to close a browser window I will
click on the 'x' in the upper right hand corner of the
screen. I will then see the word 'close' and everything
hangs. Once this happens I will eventually get a message
box that says this process will not end (not the exact
wording' and I will have to click ok for the window to
close.

Does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this
and what I can do to fix the problem.

Thanks,

Howard

This is probably being caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite)

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Additional information at:
The Parasite Fight http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups: http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm

If not caused by malware, consider disabling (for diagnostic purposes)
legitimate programs running in the background which might be interacting
with IE- security, antivirus, ad-blockers, toolbars & other add-ons, etc.
You may have to uninstall then reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

Hope this helps,
Don

Don:

Thanks for the reply.

I have taken all the steps that you layed but the problem
still exists. It appears that I did not have any parasites.

I use Ad_Aware and Spy-Bot to attempt to keep my PC clean.
I did have quite a few temporary internet files but I
deleted those and rebooted.

However, the problem occured again a few moments ago. When
I click on the 'x' in the upper right hand corner of the
screen I see the word 'close' and then the screen freezes.
About thirty seconds later the box comes up saying the
program is not responding and I click OK. Things usually
work fine after that. There is one particular site where I
get this problem frequently but not always. I also have
this problem a few other sites.

Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Thanks again.

Howard
