Clone WinXP Pro on IDE to SATA HD

H

Helob

Plan to upgrade my pc running Win XP Pro from P3to P4 and intend to
use SATA Harddisk.
Currently I have Ghost image of my IDE harddisk.
Qusetions?
1. Any problem to clone the Ghost image of the IDE harddisk to the
SATA harddisk?
2. Are the ghost image compatible on IDE & SATA Harddisk?

TIA

SATA disks work as an IDE hd will w/o the RAID configuration,a 3rd party
copying software is needed.XCOPY wont work.If drive overlay is what
you want,read kb article # 315679

First, your P3 installation of XP won't work on a P4 machine. Even if it
does manage to boot and install new hardware it will never work properly. A
fresh install is better.

Secondly, Ghost doesn't like some SATA drives and controllers. I have a Tyan
Thunder mainboard that refuses to even start Ghost 2003. It also doesn't
like a Highpoint SATA RAID controller either. Getting the image or restoring
it with Ghost may not even be an option.

Lots of people have had problems cloning XP to SATA drives. Best
results have come from Drive Image 2002 (not the newer current version,
but the on immediately preceeding it). Results with Ghost and other
versions of drive image have been inconsistent.

[Note, because it happened to be the last version of Drive Image that
worked on Windows 98, the previous version of Drive Image is included
with the latest version as a separate, second CD].

Acronis Drive Image (ver 7 or 8) works great for this too...clones very
nicely.
