for some time I have had a problem with the clock showing the wrong time.
Currently it is 3 hours behind. I have checked everything, synchronised a few
times but now there is an error message when I try to synchronise it. I also
checked the battery. Is there a general clock problem? (running up to date
windows xp home)

*Exactly* three hours behind?

You are likely set for the wrong time zone.

Is your CMOS Battery dead?

Before anyone whose clock is running slow rushes out to buy a new battery,
he should first take note of whether he is losing time while the computer is
running or while it's powered off. If it's while powered off, the problem
*is* very likely the battery. But if it's while running, it can *not* be the
battery, because the battery isn't used while the computer is running.

Moreover, his clock is apparently always wrong by exactly two or three
hours. A battery issue would never cause the clock to be wrong by some exact
numbers of hours.

Almost certainly, his problem is unrelated to his battery.

So it sounds like something in Windows?

Also, did he say "Exactly"? I can't find him saying it.

I was almost sure it was his time zone setting, but he says no. So at this
point I'm not sure what it is.

Well, I asked "*Exactly* three hours behind?" He didn't directly reply to
that question, but I take his not correcting me as acknowledging it.
