Clock keeps setting wrong...

My clock in my toolbar does not keep time right. I can
set the clock during use, but when I shut off the
computer and come back at a later time it is off by eight
hours or so. Could my CMOS battery be going bad?

Yep. You need to install a new battery, not just for the clock,
but for the BIOS. Look at your computer manual for info on type, etc.

Yes your CMOS battery could be going bad . . . you
neglected to say how old the computer is. For a system
less than two years old it is very unlikely that the
battery is going bad as they usually last at least 3 or 4
years.

Double-click on the clock, go to the Internet Time tab and
see if the "Automatically Synchronize . . ." switch is
turned on. If not turn it on and select a server.

OR . . . check the Time Zone on the Time Zone tab . . .

Good Luck !

Sounds like it for sure.

Probably. Rule is
If the clock does not come back right after the machine has been powered
off, it is the battery;

If the rate is wrong while Windows is running, so it gets progressively
further out, it is *not* the battery

Before you do anything drastic, check to see if your time zone is set
correctly. Axel
