Cliptastic v0.04 (Windows Clipboard Tool)

E

e

Cliptastic is a freeware tool for Microsoft Windows that keeps a history
of all the text you place in your clipboard. When you want to retrieve
something that was previously in your clipboard, simply find it in
Cliptastic and click on it. Cliptastic will place that text back into
the clipbaord for pasting. Cliptastic also provides filters for text
that contain URLs and/or email addresses - which make them easier to
find and retrieve.

Cliptastic v0.04 is out - the biggest change is that it lets you add
"Keepers" to keep important or frequently used text a click away at all
times.

CLCL Looks nice.... but that popup menu can get rather large with 50,
(250?, 500?) items in it.. no?

Really, I wrote Cliptastic for coders or people who cut and paste
snippets of source code, machine names, urls, email addresses, etc.. all
the time. If I need to ssh to an obscure machine that I can't remember
the full hostname of, I just scroll up and find it in my Cliptastic
list. Or, I make the machine name a "Keeper" and then I can easily find
the machine in the Keeper list. I can "tear off" the Keeper menu
(something totally foreign to Windows users, but a feature
none-the-less) and have it floating above any window at all times, if I
so desire.

The important thing is that you use what is right for you. I wrote
Cliptastic for me and my coder friends at work... and it works really
well for us.

Then you tidy it up into folders, also accessible from the right click
menu. Nested folders, even.

Rather a lot of scrolling with 500+ items when it could be in an
intuitive to find nested folder, no?
Seriously, though... I suggest you run CLCL alongside your app for a
little while and I bet you will find you prefer it. Many more options
out of the box and optional plugins for tidying text etc.
Substantially smaller file size and much faster also.

It worked really badly for me. Very slow to load and slow to access
data. And then it would not close. I had to CtrlAltDel it :-(
And then it wouldn't open again. So I uninstalled it and found it
didn't uninstall properly. And reinstalled it and it still would not
load. 98SE 900mhz 256RAM

Scrolling many items is cumbersome... and I plan to address that in a
future version with a Right-Click>>Find option, type in a snippet of
text and find it... then Find Next will go to the next...

I have Windows XP and 2000 machines to test on, and would be interested
to know from others if they have the same sort of problems with Windows 98.

One thing I object to in *every* clipboard prog I've tried is that I just
have to highlight something and it appears on the clipboard prog.

I only want to have things on the clipboard that I've copied or CTRL/C'd.

I'm beginning to think it's me - have I got a wrong setting somewhere?

I can't use any of these progs because they fill themselves up with stuff I
don't want kept.

And on recent one would not delete specified clips, just cleareed the lot!

Very useful

Probably. I can't reproduce your problem on CLCL

LOL. CLCL deletes individually. I think there is a plugin that lets
you delete the lot if you want.

Calloo, callay, oh frabjous day - You've solved it.

It only happens ( I theenk) when I copy anything from stickies, which is
what I usually do to transfer to a more permanent spot.

A quick check of notepad and it works properly.

Now I can give CLCL a proper try - small is beautiful

One really nice feature that all the freeware clipboard utils lack is a
feature like payware Clipmate's PowerPaste feature. You toggle it on (up or
down) and it will automatically go to the next clip for pasting every time
you CTRL-V (or select Paste from some menu). This is SO convenient for
pasting back things in the order you've collected. When surfing, for
example, you can collect a bunch of URLS then later just PowerPaste them
into a browser's address field for opening.
