is there a keyboard shortcut to open the clipboard?

but the XP clipboard only saves one last copy. And there are utilities
out there that will expand the clipboard to save several last copies.

I've been using free version Yankee Clipper III for 7-8 years with win98,
98SE and XP and wouldn't be without it. Has 200 slots (not that you'll ever
need that many) and a neat "shoot" function that instantly pastes any slot
content to any text document. Here's their URL:
