clip art not working properly

I'm using a piece of MS clip art that is a drawn hand. I'm trying to make it
wave. I'm usually able to do stuff like this, but I can't get this one to
work. I have the hand transition in with a chime. The 5 other pieces of
clip art are on top of it and they have been set to appear after the previous
ones. They are all set to fade after showing. Everything else transitions
correctly, the chime plays, the none of the 5 pieces of hand clip art show.

I'm using PPT 2003, have appropriate virus checker...

You can accomplish a waving hand in PPT2003 using just one picture (instead
of 5 or 6). Add an Emphasis Effect: Spin. Start: With Previous. Change the
Amount (of spin) to approx. 20 degrees. Speed: Very Fast.

Edit the Effect Options for the Spin Effect, check the Auto-Reverse setting.

Edit the Timing to Repeat: Until end of slide (or amount of repetitions you
prefer)

hey! That works pretty good. My only problem now is that when it waves, the
background turns a different color. Any help with with that?

I pulled the picture into PPT and made it appear. Then I add the emphasis
effect (teeter). The "appear" shows up well. I've identified the white
background as the transparent color, but I can't do the same for the effect
picture (when I add an effect, it makes a second graphic in the Custom
Animation box). The background turns dark blue. I've changed the background
to white, thinking that white is the transparent color, but that doesn't
work. When I change the color to the background color, I then get a box of a
darker color around the waving hand.

Any help?

Ah, your clip art has a background.

Option 1: find new clip art without a background

Option 2: try to ungroup your clipart in PPT. Draw > Ungroup. If you get
the prompt: "This is an imported picture, not a group. Do you want to
convert it to a Microsoft Office drawing object?" click Yes.

Ungroup Again. Select the background object and delete it.
Now Group all separate objects together. Add your animation effects to this
edited group.

Option 3: ungrouping your "clipart" won't work because it's a raster
(bitmap) image -- (it's actually a pixelized image, not a group of vector
shapes.) In this case, you can omit the background using an image editing
program (Photoshop et al) and save as a .png file (see
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00190.htm for more info on alpha channels)

Let us know how you do or if you need further instruction.

When you add the teeter effect in powerpoint 2003 - it assigns a background color. You can change it but I have yet to find how to remove it.

Try selecting the text box and set the background to 100% transparent in more
fill colours
