Client Services for Network Must Be Uninstalled

In the process of helping my friend with a log-on problem in XP Home,
I attempted to go into the User Accounts screen in Control Panel to
change how she logs on. I got an error message stating that, "Client
Services for Netware has disabled the welcome screen and fast user
switching." It says in order to restore them, you must uninstall the
Client Services for Netware. I could not find where to uninstall this
service. I found it in the Administrative Tools screen, and I
disabled it, but that didn't help. How do I uninstall the service?

You can usually uninstall Client Services for NetWare in the properties sheet
for the network adapter. Take a look at this article from Microsoft for more
info.

Thanks. I copied all that info to take to her house tomorrow.

How would the Novell Client get installed on a computer that is used
by someone who knows very little about computers, and uses it
primarily for word processing and e-mail? If I knew that I could warn
her what not to do next time.

I can't say for sure. One possibility is that it a program she installed on her
computer added it to her network connection.

Keep in mind that she's not alone in having experienced this problem. The fact
that Microsoft created an article in their Knowledge Base indicates that it's
not a rare occurrence.
