Win2k SP4 standalone PPTP VPN server on workgroup
network - no active directory. DSL modem/router, routing
to server w/ 192.168.3.2; router 192.168.3.1. Port
forwarding on 1723, and IP 47 (GRE) enabled. When
attempting to connect, client hangs on "Verifying user
name and password..." I have identical setup in three
other locations which connect fine. The only difference
is the modem/router. This one is an ActionTec. The others
are either D-Link or LinkSys with separate DSL
modem/bridge. I am able to use Terminal Services.

Check to make sure nothing is blocking GRE on the client side. You can test
using pptpsrv.exe and pptpclnt.ex from the Windows 2000 Support tools.

That is fine, because I can use the same client to
connect to the other VPN servers. It would seem like it
has to be on the server side.
