I too have an asus laptop and have experienced very similar weird problems
with selecting with the mouse cursor in certain windows and dialogue boxes
since a recent Vista update was downloaded.

The solutions posted probably have nothing to do with this problem. I don't
have a wireless mouse, am not using Laserjet Toolbox, etc etc, and I suspect
the person who posted this isn't either. For me the problem occurs whether
using the mouse or fingerpad. It is intermittent, and worse with some
software than others. Strangely enough, if I drag the affected folder to my
second monitor I have connected to the laptop (22" flatscreen), it works
fine on that screen.

Since both you and the OP have Asus laptops and are experiencing
something similar, it's a good guess that the problem lies in the Asus
drivers, probably the video drivers and possibly also the touchpad
drivers. I would call Asus tech support for this.
