Clicking on any link only opens an inactive ie6 browser page.

If I already have my browser open and click on a link, it
will open a new active page and everything works fine.

Lately, I notice that if I click on any link in another
application without my browser being open, a new page
will open but in an inactive status. I then have to go
back to the original application and click the link once
more for the new window to become active and show content.

I'm unable to correct this problem and would appreciate
any suggestions...Skipper

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (SFC /SCANNOW for Win2K or WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically
D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System
File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells
you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

Frank, I tried these suggestions and the problem still
persists. My OS is (XP Home).

My workaround for the problem is to open my browser prior
to clicking on a link from any other application. With
the browser open all links work fine.

Can you think of anything else I can try?

Thanks...Gene

This probably won't help either, but it's worth checking:

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Success!!!!
Your last message contained the one suggestion that fixed
my problem! You said "Sometimes it is necessary to
uncheck Use DDE." That was it. All links open in an
active window now.

Thanks so much for the help...Skipper

You're welcome. BTW, it's quite unusual for that to be necessary.
