When I click a file or a folder I get a search window rather than all of
the files in the folder being displayed. If I don't put anything in the
search criteria box and hit search, all the files come up. How can I
turn off this search???

Open a run command and type in:
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll click [OK] and Reboot your computer then try to
open files/folders and see if you will get the search or open the file/folder
as you wish.

Also you can see the Value been set in these keys:
Open a run command and type in :
regedit.exe click [OK] and on the registry editor locate these Keys:
[-] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\Shell =
[ab] Default "not set"
[-] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell =
[ab] Default "not set"

HTH.
Let us know.

ve had that problem on this laptop..
if you go to..my computer.. tools.. folder options..go to file types..
then click the file type.. go to advanced.. sometimes there is a
search listed in there.. sometimes you cannot delete that though. but
i know thats where you can find where search shows up. also then in
registry you can then delete that search option..but not recommended
if you dont know what one.

Glad you got it sorted and thanks for the feedback.
Good luck.
