I have all boxes checked in Disk Cleaner in start menue but it never clears
this box. What do I need to do. Why does Internet Explorer run so much slower
than Firefox with anything I do . I uninstalled Firefox an only run Internet
Explorer an it takes twice as long for ANYTHING to run or start. I run three
spyware programs an have Zonelabs Internet Suite. Thanks for alls help and

I assume that you mean Disk Cleanup.

Disk Cleanup comes with Windows. Disk Cleaner is made by R.J. Moerland and
has to be downloaded.

What's in it, 32KB? Probably an index.dat file. Disk Cleanup does not
delete the index.dat file.

If you do not use or need the WebClient service, disable it.

Disabling the WebClient service might speed up network browsing, but it will
prevent access to web-resident network places, such as free disk storage
from your ISP.

Disabling the WebClient service will make WebClient/Publisher Temporary
Files disappear completely from Disk Cleanup.

Disabling the WebClient service will also make the folder and index.dat file
disappear.

If the "WebClient" service is disabled the "WebClient/Publisher Temporary
Files" disappears in the Disk Cleanup tool. It would appear that disabling
this service is probably beneficial for security reasons and can easily be
enabled if it should affect the running of any Windows XP application. (To
disable this service go to Start/Control Panel/Administrative
Tools/Services - under the General Tab, look under Service status and click
Stop. Above this where it says Startup type, click on the drop down menu and
select 'disabled' hit apply to save your changes. You may have to restart
your computer for the changes to take effect on Disk Cleanup.)

WebClient service description...
Enables Windows-based programs (Like the Web Publishing Wizard) to create,
access, and modify Internet-based files on Internet file servers using the
WebDAV protocol. The WebDAV protocol is a file access protocol described in
eXtendible Markup Language (XML) that travels over the Hypertext Transfer
Protocol (HTTP).

Here's the skinny on the WebClient Service on Windows XP:
1. Real World Description: the WebClient service provides WebDAV (Web
Distributed Authoring and Versioning) integration in the Explorer shell. It
makes it possible to use "web folders" and to browse the file systems of web
servers (not unlike FTP, but better -- adds secure password authentication
and file locking) within an Explorer window. WebDAV is an extension of the
HTTP/1.1 protocol.
2. It is not needed.
3. You can also use Internet Explorer 5 and above for this functionality
(File > Open > enter URL and check the "Open as Web Folder" checkbox), as
well as a host of other downloadable tools that implement WebDAV.
