Clearing out the "Suggest Names in CC"

Can any one tell me how the "Suggest Names in CC" actually works. I have the
box in options ticked but does it only suggest those e-mails addresses that
you actually type in or does it look at your Contacts, if so what specific
field is it looking at within your contacts (e-mail or display as)

Final questions is how do your clear the cache of these suggested names as
some that are appearing are very old and I don't use them anymore

The cache is derived only from messages already sent.
Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:
