Does anyone know how to clear the recent history in the popup box of the run
command under the start menu in XP? I have tried selecting each line and
hitting delete, looked for where this information is possibly stored in the
registry or searched for a file and have not found where this is stored to
clear out the old contents.

Hi David,

The information comes from two separate areas:

1. RunMRU entry in the registry. This can be cleared by editing the
registry, or by clearing the Recent documents list in the Start Menu and
Taskbar Properties.

Display, Use, and Clear "My Recent Documents" on the Start Menu in Windows
XP

2. The entries that appear when you type something (but not normally
displayed when you click the drop-down), comes from the Index.dat (Internet
Explorer's) file. Clearing the Index.dat should help.

Uncheck Use Autocomplete for "Web addresses" in IE Options Content tab
(AutoComplete settings dialog). FYI, unchecking this option, disables the
CTRL + ENTER (autosuggest) functionality in Intenret Explorer.

Clearing your Recent Docs also clears this box. Start - Control Panel -
Taskbar & Start Menu - Customise - Advanced - Clear List

Ramesh,

Thanks for the info. I've been going nuts trying to clear that drop down
box. It's embarrassing when my IT guy does work on my computer and sees some
of the places I've been. Yikes! Firtunately he's a friend of mine otherwise
I'd be in big trouble with upper management. "Uncheck Use Autocomplete for
"Web addresses" in IE Options Content tab" did the trick!

Rick
