Clean Vista Install wont finish

Hi guys

Trying to install Vista RTM on a clean partition on a Dell Inspiron
9400 laptop. I did an upgrade checker before I started and it said
Vista would install.

Basically, the install works okay, and then after the first reboot I
get a "blue screen of death". I can't see anything that tells me
what's going on, but the error is.. 0X000000E7.

Then the machine just restarts.

I tried the Startup Repair thingy, and it sits there for 3-4 hours (I
got bored after that). How long is that supposed to take? I tried it
again, and gave up after 3 hours.

Can't get past the blue screen or to the end of the Startup Repair.

Any idea what's going on!?!?

Thanks,

Dan

Try a few things Dan.

1.) Upgrade the laptop's ROM BIOS to the latest version. This is available
on the Dell Support site.
2.) Try turning down the laptop's powersaving features during the install.
This is accessible from within the laptop's system BIOS. S1 mode seems to be
the one I have had the most luck with.
3.) Make sure you are not running off of battery power during the install.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, still no further...

I upgraded the BIOS as suggested, however I couldn't find the power
saving options you're referring to. In fact, I couldn't find any power
saving options at all in the bios setup. Just some Auto Wake options,
which were all off..?

AC has been plugged it at all times.

Any other ideas greatfully appreciated :)

Was the clean partition created as an Active Partition?
What version are you trying to install, upgrade or Full?
What edition of Vista are you trying to install?
Are you using a 32bit or a 64 bit Vista DVDF?
