Clean Install w/SP2 CD?

Hi...
I am looking at having to do a clean istall on my PC.
I have two questions....
#1: I have only "C:\" drive, which currently houses WinXP home ...does the
clean install use this same partition to clean install windows? (Not a
problem in it does...it's what I am wanting...just need to know what
partition to use)
#2: I have the ORIGINAL Installation CD I recieved when I purchased my DELL
PC , however, a friend slipstreamed my WIN XP Home Edition with SP2 to create
a bootable CD that has SP2 on it...
Can I use that CD to reinstall windows? Or do I have to reformat using the
original Cd w/out SP2 on it.
And if it is the latter, How do I UNINSTALL SP2 if it is not listed for
removal in the "ADD OR REMOVE" listings...?
Thanks...

1. When you do the clean install, you will be shown the partitions that are
on the hard drive. It doesn't sound like you have more than one. I like to
delete the old partition, create a new one, format it NTFS, and then
install. All of this is part of the install process.

will need on-hand

2. Yes, you can use the slipstreamed XP; that's what it is for! Since you
are doing a clean install and not a repair install, you wouldn't need to
uninstall SP2 in any case because everything on the drive will be gone. So
do make sure you've backed up your data.

Vicki,

A rule of thumb is to never put two installations of Windows on the same
partition. You will want to remove the current installation of Windows. Best
would probably be to off-load/ backup your important data, files, music etc.
to removable media or a location on the home/business network. Also run the
Files and settings transfer wizard and pick things to offload/backup with
that e.g. Outlook Express. Thereafter reformat C: drive and clean install a
new copy of Windows there.

If the disc your friend made has SP2 slipstreamed, and it was made correctly
i.e. it is a working Windows disc, then you should be able to use it. Since
it was slitpstreamed from your own disc, the product key should work.

If, however, you use the original media and you add SP2 later, the entry for
SP2 will be in Add/Remove programs, but to see it you may have to check the
"Show Updates" checkbox.

Malke provided some links to get you started. You can use a seach engine
too. Read up a bit on installing Windows, partitions and formatting, FDISK
and DISKPART and you should do just fine.
