Clean Install Problem

I have a Compaq Presario 5420 from 2002. It has windows XP
Home.

I bought Windows XP Professional for Students and Teachers
but I can't get it to work. I can download the program
from my computer etc. but it does not run since XP home is
stil in charge.

I try to "boot from CD" but the machine doesn't do this,
though it is configured to boot from disc first and it
will do so with the Compaq recovery disc for the XP home
(though curiously, they use the DVD drive to run it). Do I
need a "boot disc" or something to make this happen.

Safer to use a data eraser first then reset your drive.
The CD is bootable but your bios has to be set to cdrom boot.
